Capital Project Manager

Capital Project Managers at Highline Warren are responsible for designing, planning, and directing capital engineering projects that deliver business goals. These exciting capital projects deliver business growth at individual plant sites or a company-wide basis. The individual in this role is responsible for overseeing engineering projects and ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and within project scope specifications. This leader will coordinate efforts among internal and external engineering team resources and will be the single point of contact to ensure that effective communication exists among various departments involved in projects, as well as ensuring resource allocation is effective and efficient to deliver project goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function.

  • Apply engineering principles to design, modify, or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment, or processes used in manufacturing products.
  • Plan and lead medium to large / complex capital projects/programs, typically (>$4M) that include the integration of internal and external technical resources.
  • Determine feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing equipment considering costs, available space, time limitations, company strategic goals and plans, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Confer with suppliers and contractors to oversee design, specification, and installation of new equipment.
  • Deliver reliable equipment, infrastructure, and integrations that exceed startup and safety targets and help the company grow top and bottom lines.
  • Responsible for all aspects of project management from conceptual design phase through implementation and close out.
  • Oversee engineering projects ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and within project specifications; coordinate efforts among internal and external team members to ensure that effective communication exists among various departments involved in projects, as well as ensure resource allocation is effective, efficient, and sufficient to complete projects.
  • Understand and apply lean manufacturing tools and methodology to all capital projects. Provide cost options to the business that deliver a world class, sustainable system.
  • Collaborate with co-workers and team members to define, analyze, and resolve issues, as necessary.
  • Attend and contribute to planning and scheduling meetings; generate and report out on project progress.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with and knowledge of all processes, utilities, and operational areas of the assigned facilities.
  • Maintain an open and candid working relationship with immediate supervisor/manager in discussing matters of importance.
  • Develop skills and capabilities in a team of capital project managers.
  • Review, assess and provide guidance to capital project management direct reports in conceiving, developing, and implementing technology upgrades or product improvement/line extensions.
  • Provide on the job day-to-day training as well as internal and external capability development.
  • Lead by example in championing Highline Warren Capital Project Management process and tools.
  • Continually evaluate processes, make recommendations, and implement improvements to optimize efficiency.
  • Adhere to established company values, practices, policies, and procedures at all times. Follow and support compliance with all applicable safety rules, laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance at the assigned work location.
  • Travel is required to plant and vendor sites, 30-50% depending upon project activity and complexity.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

An individual qualified for this job must be able to:

  • Always perform work in a safe manner, the goal is zero recordable incidents. Be familiar with industry contractor and plant safe work practices. Drive integration of safe work practices into every phase of capital project execution.
  • Understand mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and interpret related engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Review for accuracy estimate engineering time, material, costs, and resources required for proposed projects. Anticipate and address potential gaps.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicate with co-workers, team members, and internal and external suppliers / customers. Read, analyze, and interpret common trade publications.
  • Effectively review and analyze data and test results.
  • Accurately multiply, divide, add, and subtract whole numbers to resolve practical problems.
  • Operate a computer—PC proficiency; use spreadsheets and reporting software effectively.
  • Understand written instruction and complete appropriate documentation as directed.
  • Use a logical approach to capital project issues and prioritizing business needs.
  • Anticipate problems and work toward the solution of those problems with project team and collaborate with other functions.
  • Pay attention to details and pursue quality in accomplishing work duties and tasks. Look for opportunities to reduce costs or increase productivity without reducing effectiveness.
  • Handle challenges skillfully, thoroughly, and effectively.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with co-workers, team members, and internal or external suppliers/customers. Present information clearly and accurately.
  • Execute capital project management within the established Highline Warrens expected standard capital project management process and tools. Make recommendations to continually improve these tools.
  • Independently take advantage of opportunities to improve or increase skills, abilities, and job knowledge.
  • Make sure that work is delivered on time and of high quality.
  • Develop good work practices in order to get the job done.
  • Use equipment, resources, and time in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Use good judgment when making decisions.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

An individual qualified for this job must have and maintain the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ME, CE, ChemE, Electrical or Industrial) from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years managing capital projects and budgets with increasing complexity and scale.
  • 2 years people leadership experience is preferred.
  • 2 years plant manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • PMP certification or other Project Management training is preferred.

  • This is a desk-based job and will require the individual to remain seated for long periods of time and have the manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, phone, copier/scanner, and similar machines.

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS

The environmental conditions described here are representative of those the associate encounters while performing the Essential Functions of the job.

  • The individual will work in both an office setting, in the same room as other individuals –where noise levels are average for an office and include conversation and/or office equipment noise; and on the manufacturing floor where many individuals will be working, and the machinery and equipment may be loud.
  • While working with team members at the manufacturing and distribution facilities, the individual may be exposed to moving machinery, work in high/precarious places, marked changes in temperature and humidity, and dust, odors, and fumes. Typical noise level is loud.
