The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing and deploying new processes and equipment. Will also be responsible for developing and implementing improvements to existing manufacturing systems largely for blending, storage, and handling of liquid componentry and products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function.
- Collaborate with the cross-functional teams to design fluid blending, storage, and handling systems that satisfy specific requirements of safety, quality, efficiency, and new business development.
- Participate in and manage projects that support company expansion and cost reduction initiatives.
- Select components to handle fluids, and to measure and control flow, including hoses, valves, strainers, pressure gauges, filters, flow meters, heat exchangers, and fittings.
- Configure liquid storage tanks, and select related equipment, including heating, insulation, level measurement, and temperature measurement systems.
- Select pumps and design piping for liquids of various viscosities and densities.
- Manage capital projects to successful conclusions, controlling scope, schedule, and budget.
- Accurately estimate engineering time, material and labor costs, and implementation schedules for proposed projects.
- Participate in project implementation, including Factory Acceptance Tests, assembly, installation, and commissioning to ensure systems conform to project specifications and engineering design standards.
- Provide expert engineering advice to internal operations and management personnel.
- Maintain engineering documentation in compliance with company and department standards.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards and procedures.
- Identify and contribute to continuous improvement efforts to reduce costs or increase productivity without reducing effectiveness.
- Adhere to established company values, practices, policies and procedures at all times. Follow and support compliance with all applicable rules, laws, regulations, and standards.
- Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance at the assigned work location. Travel up to 30% of the time.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
An individual qualified for this job must be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency with process engineering concepts including fluid mechanics, process design and optimization, and thermodynamics.
- Apply logic and creativity to solve moderately difficult engineering problems.
- Work independently with general supervision to complete tasks.Lead and manage small process engineering projects (<$1M), making critical decisions and ensuring project success.
- Effectively collect data and apply mathematics to the analysis and improvement of manufacturing systems.
- Understand mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and interpret related engineering drawings.
- Solicit and objectively consider alternative solutions to challenges encountered in assigned work.
- Apply logic and reasoning to weigh alternatives and identify the most favorable option.
- Develop engineering projects from concept to practical reality.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Impart technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner to technical and non-technical personnel.
- Effectively use computers for the documentation, analysis, and communication of information.
- Make efficient use of current 2D and 3D CAD applications to develop and modify schematic and spatial engineering graphics.
- Utilize statistics to guide improvement efforts to successful conclusions.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS
An individual qualified for this job must have and maintain the following qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in a process manufacturing industry (chemical or petroleum preferred).
- Engineer Intern (EI) certification preferred.

The individual will be expected to work in a manufacturing plant environment, which may include being exposed to work in high, precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, and extreme heat. Typical noise level is loud.
