Benefits Specialist

Department: HR
Location: Memphis, TN

Summary:

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and wellness offerings. This role supports enrollment processes, assists employees with benefit-related questions, ensures data accuracy within systems, and helps maintain compliance with applicable regulations. The Benefits Specialist plays a key role in delivering positive employee experience by providing timely, knowledgeable, and service-oriented support.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer group benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, FSA/HSA, and 401(k).
  • Serve as a resource to team members by answering benefit-related inquiries and resolving routine issues with a high level of service and professionalism.
  • Support annual open enrollment activities including communication, system testing, and data audits.
  • Collaborate with Payroll and external vendors to ensure accurate benefit deductions and enrollments.
  • Assist in maintaining benefit plan documentation and compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Review and reconcile monthly invoices from carriers and vendors.
  • Participate in vendor relationship management, supporting escalations as needed.
  • Assist with wellness initiatives, benefits communications, and new hire onboarding.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in benefits administration.
  • Working knowledge of benefits laws and regulations (ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA).
  • Experience with HRIS and benefits enrollment systems.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • CEBS, PHR, or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
